Extended Hours

Extended Access Service

West Lancashire now has an Extended Access service running 7 days a week from 18:30 -20:00 Monday –Friday,

10:00 – 14:00 on Saturdays and 10:00 – 13:00 on Sundays.

You can book one of these appointments by contacting reception.

We have the availability to book appointments with a GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse, Health Care Assistant or Phlebotomist.

The service runs from various locations on weeknights and from 3 hubs in West Lancashire on the weekend:

Burscough Health Centre   Ormskirk Medical Practice    Sandy Lane Health Centre

The service offers pre-bookable and same -day primary care appointments. Appointments are available to all patients who are registered in West Lancashire and can be booked by contacting reception.

Please be aware this is not a walk-in service – you must have an appointment

When We Are Closed

An out-of-hours service is in operation for emergencies when the surgery is closed. Please call the usual surgery number and listen to the message containing the necessary contact details.

NHS Direct

In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can also call 111 NHSD to speak to a triage nurse. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.


Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
